SAN JOSE (Jan. 6, 2005) – More than 2,500 underprivileged youth will receive free tickets to attend this year’s State Farm Pac-10 Women’s Basketball Tournament at HP Pavilion as part of the Basketball and Youth Program, a project of the tournament’s local organizing committee supported by the San Jose Sports Authority.

"The tournament is a showcase for some of the best women’s college basketball in the nation, and our Basketball and Youth Program ensures that the youth of our community will be exposed to these role model athletes and the benefits of competitive sports," said Susan Hammer, former San Jose mayor and chair of the organizing committee.

The Sports Authority is helping to raise $40,000 to fund the Basketball and Youth Program through sales of all-session ticket blocks for the March 4-7 tournament. The Sports Authority also will coordinate distribution of the tickets to schools or non-profit organizations that will identify the youngsters who are to receive them.

Businesses or individuals wishing to purchase ticket blocks may contact Tracie Morris, the Sports Authority’s development director, at (408) 288-2937 or by email at tracie@sjsa.org, for program details and possible tax benefits.

The State Farm Pac-10 Women’s Basketball Tournament is one of more than 130 premier sports events brought to the city by the San Jose Sports Authority, which actively supports youth and amateur athletics throughout the community. Visit our website at www.sjsa.org.
