SAN JOSE (May 9, 2005) – Registration
forms The First Tee® of San Jose’s summer
programs of youth golf instruction are now available
for downloading and printing from the San Jose Sports
Authority’s web site at www.sjsa.org.
Formerly known
as the Eagles at Rancho del Pueblo, The First Tee® of San Jose offers minimal-cost
course access, equipment and lessons, and it has grown
to become most popular of the Sports Authority’s
community programs, introducing more than 600 kids
to the game of golf and the life skills it teaches
since its inception in 2001. Financial assistance
is available for golfers in need.
The summer programs
include:
- TARGET class for boys and girls
7-9 years old teaches life skills of respect and
hard work in
addition
to basic golf instruction on Tuesdays from July
5 to Aug. 9. Cost is $20 for the summer and is limited
to
the first 15 registrants.
- Level I and Level II
instruction for boys and
girls 10-14 teaches life skills and golf for new
and continuing players (Level I) and current Level
II players
or students who pass the qualifying exam. Classes
are offered once a week beginning the week of June
20 through
the week of Aug. 8 on Tuesdays or Thursdays for
Level I players and Mondays or Wednesdays for Level
II
players. Cost is $20 for the summer and is limited
to the first
40 registrants for Level I and first 34 registrants
for Level II.
- Summer Golf Camp for golfers
9 and older who want to pursue competitive golf
or
try out for their
school’s golf team. The camp runs from
noon until 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays
from July
13 through
Aug. 11. The $100 cost includes PGA instruction,
clinics, lunch, snacks, prizes and course access
and is first-come,
first-served.
All programs are offered at Rancho del
Pueblo Golf Course, 1649 Hermocilla Way
in San Jose.
To register for the TARGET
or Level I or Level II
programs, parents must complete either the English or Spanish PDF
form from the web site and bring it to registration
at Rancho del Pueblo at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 21. Forms
are also available at the course’s pro shop.
