World’s largest water polo tournament
begins this weekend in South Bay

For Immediate Release

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (July 26, 2007) – On of the eve of the one-year mark leading to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, USA Water Polo brings the 2007 S&R Sport Junior Olympics water polo championships to the San Jose area.

Eight days of competition – Saturday, July 28 through Sunday, Aug. 5 – will pit the best middle and high school players America has to offer. When the waters calm, national champions will be crowned in both boys and girls divisions, each comprised of four different age brackets.

Clubs representing areas from the southern-most reaches of the Golden State to the enclosed pools of the Northeast will converge for what is the world’s largest water polo tournament. The boys do battle first (July 28–31) , then turn over the pools to the girls’ action (August 2-5) The cities of San Jose and Cupertino have joined forces to host this cavalcade of water polo excitement and welcome clubs who have had to fight their way through local ranks to qualify.

The capital of the Silicon Valley serves as the perfect venue for what will not only be an exciting show of the best talent under the voting age but perhaps a sneak peek at tomorrow’s future stars at the collegiate ranks and beyond. More than 300 teams, comprised of approximately 5,400 athletes and coaches, along with 10,000 spectators, and a who’s who of college coaches will descend on the area, making it a sporting event not to miss.

“The S & R Sport 2007 National Junior Olympics promises to be an amazing grassroots event for our water polo age-group athletes in the U.S.”, said Steve Granick, co-owner of S & R Sport. “We are pleased to be the title sponsor again and to have a presence at the largest water polo tournament in the world. It’s going to be a fun week with some great water polo.”
