USA Men’s Volleyball Olympic Gold Medalists take on China June 26 & 27 in San Jose
Tickets on sale April 10

SAN JOSE (April 10, 2009)  –Tickets for the 2009 FIVB World League match -- USA vs China -- being held in San Jose, will go on sale today, Friday, April 10th.  This is the first time that an international volleyball event of this caliber has been hosted in the Bay Area.

The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team (ranked No. 2 in the world) will face China on June 26 & 27 (7 p.m. both nights) at the San Jose State University Event Center. The two teams last played at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where the U.S. Men won the gold medal.
"We are thrilled to welcome the USA Olympic gold medalist and defending World League champion team, and to host the Chinese national team in San Jose for this very special event," said Patricia Ernstrom, executive director of the San Jose Sports Authority. "Hosting an international contest of this caliber represents a unique opportunity for San Jose, and the entire Bay Area, to witness the highest level of athletic competition right in our own backyard."
The U.S. Men are the defending champions of the 2008 World League, the elite men's volleyball competition in which the world's best teams are divided into four pools and play for six straight weekends in June and July.

Winners from each pool, the host country and a pick from among the second place teams will go to the final round in Belgrade, Serbia on July 22-26. The total World League prize purse is more than $20 million, with the winning team collecting a prize of more than $1 million.

Federation Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB), the World Games organizer, governs all forms of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball worldwide.  FIVB has created World League providing international competition in non-Olympic years.  More information about World League can be found at: www.fivb.org

Tickets will be on sale through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000), the San Jose State box office, the HP Pavilion ticket office, and through Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA).  NCVA will sell tickets onsite at their upcoming volleyball tournaments -- the No Dinx Far Western National Tournament and Girls Power League Regionals, as well as through their office.
